Even in cutaway diagrams (or actual cutaway hardware), I was never able to visualize the construction of turbopump impellers. Eventually, I saw some intact F-1 rocket engine turbopump impellers; these, combined with the cutaways, provide a complete picture of how turbopump impellers work.
