A lunar globe on a bookshelf, presented to von Braun by Russian physicist Leonid Sedov. The sign in front of the globe read "Soviet Union's lunar globe presented to Dr. von Braun by Prof. Leonid Sedov of USSR's Space Program." The globe has the far side of the moon turned to face visitors, which seems appropriate as the Soviet Luna 3 spacecraft, launched October 4, 1959, was the first mission to photograph the far side of the moon. | ||||
