dsc38008.jpg

Detail of the damaged, open end of the tank.

Picture 4 of 5.

The tank's pressure vessel appears to be metallic, with a fiberglass-type outer winding, similar to the composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPV) tanks later used on the Space Shuttle and by SpaceX (where it was concluded that COPVs contributed to a September 1, 2016 on-pad explosion).
