View of the Saturn IB-style auxiliary propulsion system (APS) unit on the back side of the stage.

The Saturn V APS unit was substantially larger and had more thrusters than the Saturn IB APS unit seen here.

This stage was not manufactured as a flight article, but rather as the dynamic test stage. It was fitted with dummy mass simulators rather than actual APS modules. Presumably, MSFC did not have any spare Saturn V APS modules when this stage was prepared for exhibit at the museum but did have Saturn IB APS modules.

This photo was taken while the Saturn V was undergoing restoration; the white tarp at right was zip-tied to the aft end of the stage during this process.
