One of the circular bosses on the LOX sump.

Picture 1 of 2.

On a flight stage, the sump would have distributed liquid oxygen to the five J-2 engines. However, as this was the facilities checkout and dynamic test stage, it did not have a functional LOX sump but instead had these circular bosses representing where the LOX feed ducts would have been. For dynamic testing, the LOX feed lines were replaced with mass simulators.

The sump was also used to fill and drain the LOX tank; part of the LOX fill/drain line is visible at left.
