The hand controller was used to control the LRV's direction of travel. Tilting forward would go forward and tilting backwards would go in reverse (with increased deflection in either direction increasing the speed). Steer was accomplished by tilting the hand controller left or right.
The silver switch is the reverse inhibit switch.
