The Gemini Mission Simulator was designed to train Gemini astronauts how to rendezvous, dock and maneuver in space. The simulator was controlled by an engineer at a nearby station who would give astronauts problems to solve that might be encountered during actual spaceflight.

Tasks practiced in the simulator included:

• Prelaunch
• Launch
• Abort
• Docking
• Expanded mission time
• Controlled re-entry
