V-2 Engine (Outdoors)

For a time, the Rocket Center's V-2 rocket engine was displayed outdoors.

Along with the F-1 and J-2, this engine was displayed indoors when the museum opened (e.g., see a picture of the engine in Space Hall, the "old" museum's main exhibit area, on page 14 of my early Alabama Space & Rocket Center Souvenir Booklet). It was later moved outdoors, next to the V-2 in the Rocket Park (which, itself, was near where the V-1 is today). The V-2 was eventually moved indoors, after which the engine was moved to the concrete pad on which the V-2 formerly rested.

The engine was still displayed outdoors when I first visited in July 2002, although I don't specifically remember seeing it. I didn't purposefully photograph the engine, but it does appear in the background of several photos, which I present here. I don't know exactly when the engine was moved indoors, but it appears to have been recently relocated by the time of my October 2002 visit.

See the engine's former location (on the V-2's former concrete pad) on my U.S. Space and Rocket Center Rocket Park aerial photos page. I also have a number of resources regarding the V-2 engine and the V-2 missile.
