dsc39388.jpg

Detail of the engine's exit plane and aspirator shell.

The engine's thrust chamber is constructed of regenerative cooling tubes; fuel is routed down every other tube, absorbing heat from the thrust chamber wall, preventing the engine from melting. When it reaches the aft end of the thrust chamber, it enters a fuel return manifold and flows up an adjacent tube. This engine's thrust chamber interior has been painted a rust color.

Picture 1 of 2.

The silver shell extending past the fuel return manifold is the aspirator.
