View of the heat exchanger bellows. Picture 1 of 2. The construction of this particular bellows is somewhat unusual among F-1 engines, as there are two distinct bellowed sections, separated by a smooth section (which I'll call a "gap"). Most surviving F-1 engines (and vintage photos) have what I'll describe as a "continuous" bellows, with no such gap. There's a relatively small range of engines (F-6045 through F-6067) which have these "gapped" bellows, with earlier and later engines having the continuous bellows. I've been unable to determine the reason for this. At left is the turbine exhaust manifold inlet. | ||||
