The sign accompanying the Ascent Propulsion System mockup (actually, the APS
engine's sign is located on the Descent Propulsion System (DPS)
mockup across the room). It reads
Ascent Engine
The Apollo Lunar Lander, after descending to the lunar surface, had to return
to the Command Module. The Ascent engine was designed to do this job. NASA
placed heavy emphasis on high reliability and on simplicity of the design. The
Ascent engine is fixed-thrust and nongimballed, capable of lifting the Ascent
Stage off the moon.
