Even in cut-away diagrams (or actual cut-away hardware), I was never able to visualize the construction of turbopump impellers. Eventually, I saw some intact F-1 rocket engine turbopump impellers; these, combined with the cut-aways, provide a complete picture of how turbopump impellers work.
