dsc77071.jpg

A view of the interior of the nozzle extension and the interface to the F-1 engine proper.

The silver ring is the end of the thrust chamber; at the aft end of this ring can be seen vents through which some the turbine exhaust gasses flow. The remainder of the gasses are routed inside of the double-walled nozzle extension, where the gasses exit through gaps between the 23 rows of shingles comprising the inner nozzle extension wall, thereby providing film cooling.

The darker rectangular areas are presumably from the nozzle extension handling fixture. I am uncertain as to whether the pads on the handling fixture discolored these areas or whether the pads helped minimize corrosion (so the darker areas are more representative of the original color of the shingles).
