Located aft of the canards is the launch escape tower jettison motor, used to jettison the launch escape tower and Boost Protective Cover during a nominal launch. The tower jettison motor includes an interstage, connecting the forward portion of the tower to the body of the main launch escape motor.

As seen here, the interstage has an opening for the oval tower jettison motor nozzles.
