V-2 Replica | ||||||||
What appeared to be a V-2 was in a roped-off gallery in the early stages of construction; I suppose it's probably easier to build a gallery around the V-2 than try to move it into the gallery when it's done. The gallery overlooks the open-air gallery, and so it was possible to get an overall shot of it from the far walk-way. I was excited by the way the V-2 was mounted; while it appeared to have had its engine removed, the exhaust vanes were visible, and it was possible to see some of the mechanism which steers the vanes. However, I later found out that this V-2 was only a replica built for a TV mini-series. I still posted the pictures of the steering vanes, but do keep in mind that this is a replica. Marshall maintains a history page regarding V-2 operations in the US after the war. At the KSC oral history program page, Konrad Dannenberg's interview (direct link to 1.7 meg PDF) also contains information about the development of the V-2. Another interesting V-2 site is V2ROCKET.COM. Finally, I have a number of resources regarding the V-2 missile and its engine. | ||||||||
