Note the small latches (variously also called engagement pins or locking dogs) around the periphery of the neck disconnect interior, in their engaged position. The latches were spring-loaded and had a bevel tip. They slid out of the way as the helmet was lowered into place and, once the helmet was seated, snapped out into a channel machined into the helmet-side disconnect to hold it in place.
