U.S. Air Force Airman

Starting at midnight on the night of 5th/6th June, 1,136 bombers of the 8th Air Force dropped 5,853 tons of bombs between Cherbourg and Le Havre. At dawn 1,083 bombers kept up the bombing. On June 6, 31,000 allied airmen flew over Normandy.
