D-Day Wrecks Museum |
On our drive toward the Normandy American Cemetery from where we were staying, we saw a sign for the D-Day Wrecks Museum, and so we stopped off. On D-Day, a large number of ships, tanks, and other vehicles found their way to the sea floor off the coast, which eventually became navigation hazards. In the 1960s, the French government arranged for scrap dealers to remove them. One of the recovery teams decided to preserve some of the artifacts and put them on display in a museum. I was unable to find a web site for the museum, although there is a page for it on the D-Day Overlord Website. Google Maps link. |
