Wright Flyer

The museum displays the original 1903 Wright Flyer, the first successful heavier than air powered aircraft. Built in Dayton, Ohio, and first flown near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, both states lay title to the aircraft's pioneering status (Ohio has had various license plates claiming to be the "Birthplace of Aviation" and North Carolina's plates proclaim "First in Flight").

The Wright Flyer is NASM catalog #A19610048000.
