Project Mercury Spacesuit

The Project Mercury suit, an adaptation of the U.S. Navy Mark IV pressure suit, was designed to serve as an emergency backup system in case of spacecraft cabin decompression. This type of suit was worn by the astronauts on all Project Mercury flights.

Construction: Inner layer of neoprene-coated fabric; restraint layer of aluminized nylon fabric.

Manufactured by B.F. Goodrich Co.
