The black, rectangular door along the bottom edge of the descent stage is the Scientific Equipment Bay (SEQ Bay) in Quad II. The ALSEP and other scientific experiments were stowed here. The Lunar Module pilot would open the SEQ Bay door and extract the experiments for deployment.
