The "tabs" welded to the nozzle extension are mounting brackets for the engine's thermal insulation set. The larger tab, on the top hatband to the left of the two round connectors, is a "lifting lug," used in handling the extension.

Near the upper right of this picture, on the hatband below the two round connectors, is the nozzle extension's ID plate.
