View looking up at the outer edge of the spacecraft's "heatshield" (the grey tube is the stand or transporter on which the spacecraft rests).

Since it is smooth and black (with white under the black paint) , it would seem that this is a replacement heatshield, as a Mercury heatshield which went through reentry would appear grey and streaked; virgin heatshield material rusty red color.
