The sign accompanying Apollo 1 glove mold display. It reads
Apollo Glove Molds
These molds of Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom's right and left hands were used to make
gloves for his Apollo 1 earth-orbit mission which he was to fly to test the
Apollo hardware. The molds were made of natural latex rubber and were used to
make gloves that were flexible enough to allow a variety of tasks, both inside
and outside the spacecraft.
Some of the later gloves on later missions were intended for use outside the
spacecraft, although no EVA was scheduled for the Apollo 1 mission.
