The Apollo three-man spacecraft successfully carried United States astronauts to the Moon and back on six separate missions.

The sign appears to count only the six lunar landing missions, even though the Apollo spacecraft also took astronauts to the Moon and back Apollo 8, Apollo 10, and Apollo 13 (although one might quibble about how "successful" Apollo 13 was, the CM did carry the astronauts to the moon and back).
