The location of the experimental ablator panels is clearly visible on the upper edge of the umbilical heat shield cut-out. Apollo 6 flew samples of two different ablative materials in the umbilical, one on either side. The center section, which was covered by no ablative sample and thus exposed to the heat of reentry, is a different color.
