View of the Sojourner rover. Picture 1 of 2. The sign in back reads
Sojourner, the first rover ever on Mars, rode aboard the Mars Pathfinder lander which touched down on the red planet on July 4, 1997. Named after American civil rights crusader Sojourner Truth, the rover lasted 12 times longer than its expected life span. The successful mission tested many technologies, including an airbag landing and roving safely over rock obstacles, paving the way for the next generation rovers. | ||||
