At the center, note the injector. About one radius of the injector out from the center is the location where the tubes comprising the thrust chamber bifurcate, or split in two.

Just outward from the bifurcation point, the tubes change color and then change back to the original color. I don't know why this is but guess that that's just what happens when an F-1 engine sits outside, exposed to the elements, for 40-some-odd years.

The white blotches were present when we visited in both 2004 and 2005. I don't know exactly what they are, but imagine they might be some sort of fungal growth or insect cocoon.
