dsc07506.jpg

Overall view of the visible portion of the LC-37 launch pad, with its mobile service tower positioned over the launch pedestal.

Note the aft end of the Delta IV rocket (orange insulation on the rocket's first stage ["common booster core"] with tall, skinny white solid propellant strap-on Graphite Epoxy Motors ["GEM"]) being prepared to launch the GOES-N weather satellite toward the bottom of the mobile service tower.

The two tall towers on either side of the MST are lightning towers (you don't want your multi-million dollar rocket and payload being the area's tallest object in thunderstorm!).
