Cold Calibration Test Stand, Post-Demolition

Marshall Space Flight Center's Cold Calibration Test Stand underwent demolition sometime between July 2012 and August 2013. All of the steel superstructure of the stand was removed, leaving only small, two-story building.

The H-1 rocket engine turbopump and F-1 rocket engine turbopump which had been left installed in the test stand after their last tests were removed from the test stand prior to the stand's demolition and were left on-premises. As of early September 2013, the F-1 turbopump was still located near the former location of Cold Cal, and the H-1 turbopump was located behind Building 4205. By September 2014 the H-1 turbopump had been dismantled, with the remaining parts stored in a bay in Building 4205. The F-1 turbopump had been relocated to a boneyard southeast of the S-IC Test Stand in the West Test Area.

On August 29, 2013, a MSFC engineer sent me this photo of the general area of the former location of Cold Cal. The remains of the test stand consist of the rusty, white building just left of center and the F-1 turbopump is in front of the two rusty, spherical tanks right of center. Note the Static Test Tower rising above the foreground buildings at center.
